Gorgeous Blonde (Who's Not DHH) Takes Over Official Rails Sites

In News

gorgeous-woman.pngJust a year after RubyOnRails.org was "derailed by [a] hacker", a gorgeous woman has taken over all of the various rubyonrails.org sites (to which rubyonrails.com forwards, too) including the API documentation and official Rails weblog.

In 2009, the issue was down to David Heinemeier Hansson's problems with his domain registrar, which were quickly resolved, but it seems the issue has bubbled up once again. You'd think that with 37signals doing well enough for DHH to drive a Lamborghini Gallardo that he could drop the < $100 to extend the domain for 10 years next time — perhaps a fundraising drive could be organized, as with the successful drive for the limited-usage Rails logo.

As of April 20, 2010, the various rubyonrails.org sites look like this:

If the gorgeous girl intrigues you, you can get a whole portfolio of images of her on iStockPhoto.. Being used on millions of parked domains across the Web, she's arguably one of the Web's most famous faces.

In the course of writing this post, it seems DHH is at least aware of the problem:

As I know, .org and .edu domains has some special policy, so it is possible to return this domain to RoR community.

It seems her name might be Hannah Steller.

The appeal might be because she looks a bit like Reese Witherspoon (when she doesn't look almost anorexic). At least, that's my argument and I'm sticking to it :-)

Does upset me domain parking. So many times had a little idea and go to get the domain for it, oh it's taken, hows about that one and after 10 or so tries find none and when I check they are either for sale or just doing nothing =[

    Aaaahh domain parking :(

@S: I believe .org used to have a special organizations-only policy, but that it was removed sometime in the early 2000s.

first of all, DNS should not be made a subject of trade.

that hoe's images are heavily shopped, just look closer before fapping.

@Name: Does it matter whether photos are shopped or not if you're never going to meet the person? :-)

Okay, I can understand dropping the ball on this once, but twice! Come on, dude. I agree with Andrea, renew for 10 years and be done with it. Also, rubyonrails.com still isn't working as a mirror...

Seriously though...you guys don't think she's beautiful for real right? Then either I need glasses or you need to go out more... ;D

P.S. Parking sites should be illegal I think. For the web's best.

    Jack Says:

@grimen: Based on picture above, I'm not sure I'd call her beautiful, either. However, if it really is Hannah Steller (more pictures linked by Peter, above), and it looks like her to me, she is beautiful. I think that the parking picture just doesn't do her justice.

But, anyway, back on topic, was the domain simply not renewed or is buydomains.dk being evil? Everyone's comments seem to imply the former, but, DHH's tweet claims the latter. What happened?
