Announcing "Rails Summit Latin America" 2008 - October 15-16, Brazil
South America tends to be off the radar when it comes to programming conferences, but no longer can this be said for the Rails world. Fabio Akita is doing a great job of promoting Ruby and Rails in Brazil (and South America generally) through his Akita on Rails blog and side projects. Now he's working with other Brazilian developers (and a company called Locaweb) to organize Rails Summit LATIN AMERICA, a new South American Rails conference.
The conference is set to take place on October 15-16, 2008 in São Paulo, Brazil. Two parallel tracks will take place each afternoon, with each morning dedicated to plenary sessions. The registration fee is just $190 (300 Brazilian Reals) and includes lunch and the usual refreshments. The speaker list already includes David Heinemeier Hansson (over a video link), Chris Wanstrath, Chad Fowler, Charles Nutter, Thomas Enebo, the Phusion guys, Dr. Nic, Obie Fernandez, and more. A significant number of Brazilian Rails developers are also on board. Simultaneous English / Portuguese / Spanish translation is an interesting feature of the conference, and it'll be very interesting to see how that works out.
If you want a good excuse to visit South America, this is a pretty good one. Temperatures are only between 60 and 75 fahrenheit in October, so it should be very comfortable.
Note: Registration is not yet open, but will be in early August. A further post will go up here on Rails Inside when that occurs.
